BUT: it also gives the players the opportunity to strategize way more. Even with the increased difficulty of ghosts and death, LB is easier just because of how much easier this rule makes the game. Movement+Action: In LB, you can move then action, or action then move. I haven't seen someone die yet, but I'm guessing an early death is the sorta thing that would make LB go from easier than GS, to the rest of the game being significantly harder than GS. This is the other way LB added strategy, in that if you have 1 health you can't use the sacrifice villager, also you are thinking about healing just to prevent a potential unseen curse die death. In LB, when you die once, you lose your player power. GS suffered tremendously from being scripted, and LB has righted that (from what I can tell).ĭeath: In GS, it was a cheese strat to intentionally die and have green bring you back and you could do that repeatedly. Re-balancing the village tiles means you have way more options that feel viable. They took this opportunity to make every ghost feel bad (which is one of the few ways LB is actually harder). The issue with GS, was after about 4 plays you could start to solve the game There are certain ghosts you don't even have to fight, and certain village tiles you hammer and some you never use. This is such a massive point, it should really be three entries. Re-balances galore: They re-balanced the village tiles, the characters, and the ghosts. Also their abilities are more unique than in GS GS feels like 4 powers with 2 variants each, LB feels like 6 powers, with 2 having a variant (yellow and green from base game). More player power combinations: Because they detached the color from ability, you can combine the 8 powers in more ways (and still play your color!). I didn't even play with it every time because I didn't always want to fiddle with the villager/artifact rules (and also which villagers to save felt scripted, not very balanced).ĭifficulty decrease (which can be home-brewed) and expansion (which hoping one comes out for LB) aside, LB has a ton of changes that add up to a better game in general. Didn't care for the rest and the rules are atrocious, so while a good expansion it's not great. It adds more ghosts which are cool, and saving villagers which is neat. The other advantage GS has, is the White Moon expansion. I'll add that it's really easy to homebrew a higher difficulty in LB, and you wouldn't need it likely until 20+ plays in as it would only be to increase the top end difficulty which only experts play on anyway. I wouldn't say significantly, but maybe noticeably? Hard really to separate how much of that is my experience going up and the game going down, but it seems the games does go down in difficulty. I do believe that for my group, LB feels easier. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
